RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports is strengthening the development of para-sports by improving human resource capacity. The effort was carried out through the Training of Trainers (ToT) for Para-Sports Development Facilitators in Bandung Regency, West Java, from September 18 to 20, 2026.
The program equipped participants with the knowledge and skills to identify athletes’ potential, understand adaptive sports, and support athlete development according to the characteristics and needs of athletes with disabilities.
Chairperson of the Indonesian National Disability Commission (KND), Dante Rigmalia, said that providing appropriate opportunities and training is an important factor in helping people with disabilities develop their potential and achieve sporting success.
“We strongly believe that giving people with disabilities the opportunity and space to receive proper training is what makes the difference in whether they can achieve success or not,” Dante said in a press release on Saturday, September 28, 2026.
The training covered several topics, including Talent Identification in Para-Sports and Adaptive Sports. Participants learned how to identify athletes’ potential by considering the type and level of impairment, physical and psychological potential, the characteristics of each sport, and environmental factors.
Participants also received training on Disability Classification and Management. The material covered the placement of athletes into sport classes based on the impact of their impairment on the activities required in a particular sport.
The classification process includes health condition assessments, impairment assessments, evaluation against the minimum impairment criteria, and the determination of an athlete’s sport class and sport class status.
Dante expressed hope that similar programs would continue and that participants’ capacities would be further developed. The knowledge gained through the ToT is expected to be shared more widely to support talent identification, athlete development, and the long-term development of para-athletes in a more targeted and sustainable manner.
