RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian racer Sean Gelael is set to play a key role in Ferrari’s bid for a top-five finish at the GT World Challenge Europe (GTWCE) Endurance Cup Nürburgring, despite Mercedes and BMW dominating the practice sessions at the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany.

Partnering with Arthur Leclerc of Monaco and French racer Lilou Wadoux, Sean will drive the AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 #50 in the Pro class.

Unlike rivals chasing fast lap times, AF Corse focused on race preparation, running heavier fuel loads and worn tires to simulate endurance conditions. As a result, their practice times do not fully represent the car’s potential, Antara reported on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Sean, Leclerc, and Wadoux shared balanced driving duties during testing to gather comprehensive data. Based on this, AF Corse #50 -- along with sister car AF Corse #51 -- is considered capable of breaking into the top five during the three-hour race.

Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed #17 topped both the paid test and FP2, while BMW’s Rowe Racing #98 led FP1, underscoring Ferrari’s challenge on German soil. Still, Sean’s endurance racing experience is expected to be crucial in navigating the Nürburgring’s demanding conditions.

Qualifying will take place just hours before the race, with starting positions determined by the average lap times of all three drivers. The GTWCE Endurance Cup 3 Hours of Nürburgring begins Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 8 p.m. Jakarta time and will be streamed live on the GTWorld YouTube channel. ***
