RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin are setting their sights on a breakthrough at the 2026 BWF World Championships, determined to turn ambition into a podium finish when the tournament unfolds at the Indira Gandhi Arena in New Delhi from August 17–23.
For Joaquin, the event carries personal weight. After falling short of a junior world crown, he is eager to end his wait for a senior title.
“The World Championships are one of the most prestigious tournaments, and the medal feels different. I want to have one. Back in juniors I lost individually, so now I want to try again at the senior level,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 12, as quoted by Antara.
Making their debut on the world stage, Raymond and Joaquin have spent the past two weeks sharpening their preparation. “For the World Championships, the main difference is that we’ve had more sessions on defensive strategies," Raymond explained.
"The overall program is similar to others, but we’ve been prioritized first. After we finish, the rest of the team continues with their own program, including preparations for the China Masters,” he continued.
The duo, who finished runner‑up at the Indonesia Masters earlier this year, are also determined to rebound from disappointing runs at the Japan Open and China Open.
With the World Championships marking its 30th edition, they see the tournament as a chance to prove they can deliver a stronger, more promising performance on badminton’s biggest stage. ***
