RRI.CO.ID, Chiang Mai - The Indonesian women’s national volleyball team suffered a straight‑set defeat to host Thailand in the second leg of the 2026 Southeast Asian V Cup (SEA V Cup).

The Red‑and‑White squad fell 18‑25, 17‑25, and 12‑25 on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the 700th Anniversary Chiang Mai Sports Complex in Thailand. The loss came just a day after Indonesia secured a dramatic 3‑2 victory over Vietnam, with scores of 20‑25, 18‑25, 25‑22, 25‑20, and 15‑9.

Team manager Luciana Taroreh explained that head coach Marcos Sugiyama opted to rest key players such as Arsela Nuari, Mediol Yoku, and Chelsa Berliana.

“The team gave substitutes the chance to gain experience and build mental resilience at the international level. Although the result was not as expected, the match provided valuable lessons for our young players,” Luciana said.

Indonesia tried to mount resistance early in the first set, but problems with ball reception and finishing allowed Thailand to secure the lead.

The pressure continued in the second set, with Indonesia trailing 1‑6 and struggling after service errors. Weak reception and blocking left the team behind 10‑19, while failed attacks made it harder to contain the hosts.

Luciana emphasized that the squad has now shifted focus to the final match against the Philippines. “Our full attention is on tomorrow’s decisive game. We will evaluate and strive to perform better to achieve the best possible result,” she stated. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
