RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia will field 10 archers and four coaches at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, as the national team aims to improve on its previous continental performance while strengthening its campaign toward qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Secretary General of the Indonesian Archery Association (Perpani), Irawadi Hanafi, said the squad selection was finalized following a joint evaluation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, taking into account athletes' recent achievements, including medal winners from the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

Confidence within the team has grown after Indonesia recorded its best-ever SEA Games archery campaign, winning six gold medals and two bronze medals.

At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Indonesia secured two bronze medals and earned Olympic qualification spots for the Paris 2024 Games. The federation now hopes to surpass that result in Nagoya, despite facing strong competition from regional powerhouses such as South Korea, China, and India.

"We want to improve on our performance from the Hangzhou Asian Games and maximize our medal opportunities while using the Asian Games as a pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics," Irawadi said on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He acknowledged the competition would be intense but expressed confidence that Indonesia's archers are capable of competing at the highest level.

Earlier, Indonesian Chef de Mission for the 2026 Asian Games, Todotua Pasaribu, reaffirmed the country's commitment to providing full non-technical support for the national archery team, allowing athletes and coaches to focus entirely on competition.

Todotua explained that while technical preparation remains the responsibility of each sports federation, the Chef de Mission's office will ensure accommodation, transportation, and other logistical needs are fully supported throughout the Games. ***
