RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian boxer Anggie Intania Chalik lifted the host nation’s spirits at the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Championships 2026, after defeating Thailand’s Pemika Payungkasem in Jakarta on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

Competing in the women's light flyweight (45-48kg) bout at Basket Hall Senayan, Anggie secured a split decision victory after four of the five judges scored the bout in her favor, awarding 29-28, 30-27, 29-28, and 30-27, while one judge favored Pemika 29-28, Antara reported.

Anggie wasted little time taking control after Bulgarian referee Zahari Kavakleva Mariya signaled the start of the contest, immediately pressing forward with aggressive attacks.

Pemika matched that intensity with quick combinations and constant forward movement, producing a fast-paced contest from the opening bell. The Indonesian relied on agile footwork and disciplined defense to absorb the pressure before launching effective counterattacks.

The bout grew increasingly competitive in the second round as both fighters exchanged punches at close and mid-range while battling for control of the tempo.

Anggie remained composed, reading her opponent's movements well and capitalizing on openings with clean punches that impressed the judges.

She maintained that consistency in the deciding round despite relentless pressure from Pemika, sticking to her strategy until the final bell. The judges ultimately awarded Anggie the victory on points.

The win provides Indonesia with a positive start as host of the Asian Boxing U19 & U23 Championships and strengthens the team's confidence ahead of the remaining bouts.

Anggie, who represents Jakarta, is one of 19 Indonesian boxers competing in the tournament. Indonesia fields 10 athletes in the U19 category and nine in the U23 Division. ***
