Indonesia U-18 Women’s Volleyball Team Earns First Victory

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-18 women's national volleyball team secured their first victory at the 2026 Asian Women's U18 Volleyball Championship (AVC U-18) after defeating Iran 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22). The match was held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The trio of Khanza Putri Yansi Ganeshtri (Opposite), Venisa Dwi Oktaviani (Outside Hitter), and Tina Syifa Sabila Salim (Outside Hitter) became the main pillars in scoring points and leading attacks, making it difficult for Iran to develop their game. Previously, Indonesia had lost in straight sets to defending champions Japan (21-25, 26-28, 20-25) in their opening match.

Indonesia's performance was highly commended for putting up a fierce fight, especially in the second set which went into a deuce before Japan won 28-26. Indonesia demonstrated an improved defensive structure and reduced their unforced errors.

Assistant coach Bobby Ade said that his team's performance had improved compared to the first match. "We played better today than yesterday. Thankfully, we got the win over Iran and have a chance to qualify for the final eight. Hopefully, tomorrow will be even better and we can win the match," he added.

Indonesia is placed in the same group as Japan, Iran, and the Philippines. Japan arrived with the status of defending champions and are the most successful team in the tournament with nine titles. The Philippines are also an opponent to watch out for after previously defeating Indonesia at the 2026 Princess Cup.

The opportunity to qualify for the final eight remains wide open for Indonesia. The team must win their upcoming match against the Philippines to secure their spot. Indonesia is determined to deliver an even better performance in the next matches. (Diva Rifdah-EN)
