  • Indonesia will debut a new men’s doubles partnership at the 2026 Taipei Open, pairing experienced shuttler Muhammad Rian Ardianto with young talent Daniel Edgar Marvino.
  • The senior-junior combination is designed to accelerate player development while maintaining Indonesia’s competitiveness on the BWF World Tour.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s doubles shuttler Muhammad Rian Ardianto is set to take on a new role as mentor, teaming up with rising talent Daniel Edgar Marvino for upcoming tournaments.

The pair will make their debut at the BWF World Tour Super 300 Taipei Open 2026, scheduled for July 28 to August 2.

Men’s doubles coach Antonius Budi Ariantho explained that the decision reflects both performance considerations and a broader strategy to accelerate the development of younger players.

“I see strong potential in Daniel Edgar, but he still needs guidance on court. With Rian’s experience and skill, I hope he can help Daniel reach a higher level,” Anton said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) on Thursday, June 25, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The change comes after Rian’s partnership with Rahmat Hidayat failed to deliver consistent results. Previously, Rian had paired with Fajar Alfian, while Daniel Edgar competed alongside Taufik Aderya.

Anton noted that while Rian and Rahmat showed promise early on, recent performances prompted the coaching team to explore new options. By pairing senior and junior players, PBSI aims to speed up the learning curve at the international level.

Anton emphasized that Rian’s experience is expected to help Daniel adapt to the demands of elite competition, particularly in communication, composure, and decision‑making.

“This senior‑junior combination is designed to mature young players for higher levels, while still leaving room for them to compete at the top,” Anton added. ***
