RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's tennis players Janice Tjen and Aldila Sutjiadi booked a place in the quarterfinals of the Nottingham Open 2026 after defeating Ann Li of the United States and Tereza Valentova of the Czech Republic in straight sets on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
The third-seeded Indonesian pair secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the opening round of the WTA 250 grass-court tournament, overcoming strong resistance from their American-Czech opponents, Antara reported.
Although Janice and Aldila won in two sets, Li and Valentova put pressure on them with powerful serving throughout the match. In the opening set, Li and Valentova recorded three aces and landed 79.3 percent of their first serves. However, the Indonesian duo proved more effective, winning 89.5 percent of points on their first serve.
After the score was level at 2-2, Janice and Aldila took control of the set. They converted one of five break-point opportunities to claim the opening set 6-4.
A similar pattern unfolded in the second set. The two teams remained tied at 2-2, while recording an equal number of aces. However, two double faults from Li and Valentova provided an opening that the Indonesians capitalized on.
Janice and Aldila maintained their advantage by winning 83.3 percent of points behind their first serve and producing stronger returns to close out the match and secure the quarter-final berth.
The result offers a positive boost for the Indonesian pair, who had suffered first-round exits in several recent tournaments, including the Italian Open in May, the French Open, and last week's Libema Open.
Janice and Aldila are aiming to rediscover the form that helped them capture the WTA 250 Chennai title in India last year. In the quarterfinals, they will face Czech duo Miriam Kolodziejova and Jesika Maleckova, who defeated Japan's Miyu Kato and Makoto Ninomiya 6-3, 6-0. ***
