RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta -Indonesia will send 12 shuttlers to the Macau Open 2026, a BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament set for June 16–21, after men’s singles stars Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Moh. Zaki Ubaidillah (Ubed) were withdrawn due to health concerns.
Head coach Indra Wijaya explained that the decision was made after consultations with physiotherapists and medical staff, prioritizing recovery over competition.
“Ginting experienced a slip during the Australian Open last week. After evaluating his condition with the physiotherapy team, we decided to withdraw him from the Macau Open so his recovery process can be maximized,” Indra said in an official statement on Monday, June 15, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He added that Ubed was also not fit to compete. “Considering his health condition, we decided not to force him to play at the Macau Open and instead give him time to recover first,” Indra explained.
Ubed’s absence is particularly notable after his strong run to the semifinals of the Australian Open 2026, where he narrowly lost to China’s Dong Tian Yao in three games (19-21, 21-9, 18-21).
Indra stressed that PBSI will continue monitoring both players closely. “We do not want to take risks by forcing players to compete when they are not fully recovered,” he said, noting the decision aims to ensure they return stronger in future tournaments.

With Ginting and Ubed sidelined, the Macau Open becomes an opportunity for Indonesia’s younger talents to step up and gain valuable international experience, while the federation ensures its senior players recover fully for future competitions.
This development highlights Indonesia’s balance between athlete health management, its ongoing badminton regeneration program, and the competitive outlook for the Macau Open 2026. ***
