RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s next generation of badminton talent has made a significant statement on the international stage as Alwi Farhan Alhasny and Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah surged into the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 300 Australian Open 2026.

Competing at the Quaycentre in Sydney, the duo’s success highlights the effective long-term development strategies spearheaded by the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) with the support of PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BNI).

"In addition to technical skill improvement, the experience of competing in various international tournaments also plays an important role in shaping the winning mentality and competitiveness of young Indonesian athletes," BNI Corporate Secretary Okki Rushartomo said on Saturday, June 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Alwi Farhan secured his place in the final four after a disciplined victory over Taiwan’s Lee Chia Hao, winning 21-18, 21-15. This result marks a personal milestone for Alwi, surpassing his performance at last year’s Australian Open, where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

His recent exposure to top-tier competition at the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open appears to have sharpened his tactical execution.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah, affectionately known as Ubed, delivered a dominant masterclass against Malaysia’s Justin Hoh. Ubed controlled the pace from the opening serve, wrapping up the match in just 38 minutes with a convincing 21-7, 21-13 scoreline.

The bracket setup for the semifinals places Indonesia in a strong position to sweep the top of the podium. Alwi is scheduled to face a representative from Hong Kong, while Ubed will challenge China’s Dong Tian Yao.

Should both young shuttlers overcome their respective opponents, Indonesia will lock in the title through an All-Indonesian Final in the men's singles sector.

Okki Rushartomo reaffirmed BNI’s commitment to providing the consistent international flight hours necessary for effective regeneration. Through this synergy with PBSI, the goal remains to ensure young players gain the maturity and confidence required to maintain Indonesia's status as a global badminton powerhouse. ***
