RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia will look to break a 38-year winless streak against Oman when the two sides meet in a FIFA Matchday fixture at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 8 p.m. local time.

The Garuda squad is chasing its first victory over Oman since the late 1980s, while the visitors are determined to extend an unbeaten run that has lasted nearly four decades.

According to records from 11v11, the teams have met six times. Indonesia won the first two encounters at the King’s Cup, defeating Oman 2-0 in 1987 and 3-0 in 1988. Since then, however, Oman has dominated the fixture.

Their next meeting came in a 2007 friendly, which Oman won 1-0. During the 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, the sides drew 0-0 in 2009 before Oman claimed a 2-1 victory in 2010. The most recent clash was a 2021 friendly, when Indonesia, under Shin Tae-yong, fell 3-1.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Thursday, June 4, Indonesia's head coach John Herdman said he was motivated by the chance to end the long drought.

“As always, we hope the supporters will fill GBK tomorrow night and give their full support to this team. We have not beaten Oman in the last 38 years, and that is our challenge,” Herdman said, as quoted by Antara.

Oman’s head coach Tariq Sektioui, preparing for his debut since taking charge in March, expressed a contrasting ambition. “Of course, it has been a very long time since Indonesia beat Oman, and from our side, we will try to extend that period,” he said.

Both nations share another parallel: elimination in the fourth round of Asian qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup last October. Indonesia’s campaign ended after defeats to Saudi Arabia (3-2) and Iraq (1-0), while Oman bowed out following a 0-0 draw with Qatar and a 2-1 loss to the United Arab Emirates.
