RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The journey of Indonesian men's singles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin was cut short in the round of 32 at the Indonesia Open 2026.

Chinese Taipei's Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan defeated the Indonesian duo in a tight rubber game match, 16-21, 21-13, 19-21.

According to the BWF official website, the battle lasted for 55 minutes at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Despite the defeat, Leo/Daniel delivered an extraordinary performance on the court.

"First of all, we apologize to the Indonesian fans because we couldn't deliver the best result at this year's Indonesia Open. We fought hard out there, even though we were a bit too rushed in the third game," Daniel said during the post-match press conference.

"Moving forward, we will fix our mistakes. Hopefully, we can achieve the best possible result in the next tournament," he added.

In the third game, Leo/Daniel had actually built a commanding lead of 12-4. However, Lee/Yang kept pressing the defense of the world number 133 Indonesian pair until they equalized the score at 16-16.

During these critical moments, the world-ranked 16 pair continued their relentless attacks and put pressure on the hosts. Under intense pressure, Leo/Daniel became visibly rushed.

"We were definitely playing too hastily throughout the games. When we were ahead, we should have kept attacking, but they shifted the tempo of the game," Leo explained.

"We actually tried not to play into their hands, but they might have already anticipated our shots. In the end, they managed to turn things around," Leo said.

"It wasn't actually a focus issue; we just made too many unforced errors. We committed errors on shots that shouldn't have been missed. Perhaps the court was also quite windy," Daniel noted.

Despite not getting maximum results in their last two tournaments -- the Malaysia Masters and the Indonesia Open 2026 -- Leo/Daniel refuse to dwell on the setback.

Both will return to training to prepare for their upcoming championships, the Australian Open and the Macau Open. (Diva Rifdah)
