RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's Women Doubles Pair Apriyani Rahayu/Lanny Tria Mayasari said they need a more tactical playing pattern after losing to China’s Chen Fan Shu Tian/Luo Xu Min in the Malaysia Masters 2026 round of 16 at Stadium Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The Indonesian pair struggled with long rallies and attacking combinations from their opponents, ending Indonesia’s campaign in the women’s doubles quarterfinals in Kuala Lumpur.

After the match, Apriyani admitted the pair still needed to improve their tactical execution on court.

“For future evaluation, we need to have a more tactical playing pattern,” Apriyani said in an official statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.

Lanny explained that they were caught off guard in the opening game by the Chinese pair’s style of play, which relied heavily on long rallies and straight returns.

“In the first game, we were still surprised by the opponents’ long and straight shots, and we got dragged into their rhythm. We lost many points and came under pressure,” Lanny said.

The Indonesian pair responded strongly in the second game after receiving instructions to change their approach and avoid extended rallies. “And it worked,” Lanny added.

However, the momentum did not last in the deciding game. Apriyani/Lanny fell behind early and struggled to recover despite finding a better rhythm midway through the set. “We were trailing by quite a lot,” Apriyani said.

Lanny also highlighted the Chinese pair’s effective attacking structure, especially from the opening shots and follow-up play. “The opponents had very good opening shots and follow-up combinations,” she said.

With Apriyani/Lanny’s defeat, Indonesia no longer has a representative in the women’s doubles quarterfinals at the 2026 Malaysia Masters. ***
