RRI.CO.ID, Kuala Lumpur - Indonesia's mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah were eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2026 Malaysia Masters. They lost to Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei in straight sets, 19-21, 20-22.

The match lasted 47 minutes at Stadium Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The contest was closely fought, although the home pair ultimately emerged victorious.

In the first game, Amri/Nita trailed by as many as four points early on but managed to catch up in the closing stages. Unfortunately, before they could force the game into deuce, Chen/Toh secured the decisive point to take the opening game.

In the second game, Chen/Toh once again appeared more dominant and consistently maintained a three-point lead over Amri/Nita. However, the Indonesian pair managed to fight back and push the game into deuce. In the end, the Malaysian pair succeeded in sealing the victory.

After the match, Nita Violina Marwah said their overall game plan had worked as intended. However, failing to capitalize on key opportunities proved costly for her and her partner.

“The match actually went according to our game plan. But in the first game, after catching up, we failed to take advantage of the opportunity,” Nita said.

“In the second game we were leading 20-16, but the momentum shifted. That will be our evaluation. In terms of strategy, we could match them, but at crucial points we need to be braver,” she added.

Nita added that facing the home representatives did not become a burden. According to her, the greater pressure was on Chen/Toh as the higher-ranked pair.

Meanwhile, Amri Syahnawi said their lack of boldness and composure in execution became their downfall. Moving forward, he and Nita will work on playing more courageously and focusing point by point.

“We actually played well and controlled many parts of the match, but our execution lacked courage and composure. Shots that should have earned us points instead backfired. Our evaluation is that we still need to improve technically, play more boldly, and stay focused point by point,” Amri concluded. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
