  • The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) will develop a 500-hectare national sports center in Rancabungur, Bogor, designed as a world-class training hub for 21 priority sports.
  • The facility will include international-standard venues, sports science laboratories, and multi-level sports schools to develop athletes from an early age.

RRI.CO.ID, Cibinong - The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that a massive national sports center slated for development in Rancabungur Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, will be fully equipped with international-standard sports facilities. The elite complex will support everything from advanced aquatics to rowing, acting as the primary pipeline for the country’s top tier of athletic talent.

Speaking at the Bogor Regent’s Office in Cibinong on Monday, May 18, 2026, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Gunawan Suswantoro, detailed that the upcoming National Sports Academy and National Team Training Center is specifically engineered to nurture 21 priority sports disciplines mandated by President Prabowo Subianto.

“The goal is to train athletes who are indeed chosen to become world-class athletes,” Suswantoro explained, as quoted by Antara.

The integrated sports infrastructure will be built across a sprawling 500-hectare plot earmarked by the central government in the Candali-Cimulang area of Rancabungur. Rather than focusing solely on competitive arenas, the master plan incorporates match venues, training grounds, specialized sports research labs, and comprehensive athlete dormitories.

“The schools and sports venues are completely comprehensive, even for conducting research into any given sport, we have all the facilities ready,” Suswantoro added.

Aligning with Indonesia's 21 priority sports, the complex will host world-class facilities for aquatics, athletics, badminton, sport climbing, football, martial arts, and rowing.

To ensure long-term sustainability and early-childhood talent development, the center will also house dedicated sports schools spanning elementary, middle, and high school levels. Candidates will be scouted nationwide based on merit and raw athletic potential.

The mega-project is projected to cost IDR 5 trillion (USD 313 million) over a three-year implementation window. For the remainder of 2026, the central government is focusing on strict administrative synchronization and cross-ministry planning to ensure maximum budget efficiency.

Heavy physical construction is scheduled to run through 2027 and 2028, with full operational completion targeted for early 2029.

Bogor Regent Rudy Susmanto revealed that the broader development footprint actually encompasses 750 hectares, which is strategically split into two primary zones. The first zone consists of 500 hectares managed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and is dedicated exclusively to the national sports center, athletic arenas, and multi-tier primary schools.

The remaining 250 hectares are allocated to the Ministry of Defense, earmarked for the territorial expansion of the Special Forces Command (Kopassus) and the construction of a specialized sports-centric university.

Beyond its massive impact on national athletic prestige, the sports center is poised to serve as an economic catalyst for the long-overlooked western and northern corridors of Bogor Regency.

The Bogor Regency Administration is already racing to synchronize its regional infrastructure plans with the central government's timeline. Local authorities are prioritizing major road construction projects to feed into the complex, including the optimization of the Bojonggede-Kemang (Bomang) highway and the expansion of the vital Rancabungur-Leuwiliang access routes.

Regent Rudy noted that this collaborative blueprint completely alters the pace of regional development. While local budgets could previously only afford to take incremental steps toward improving infrastructure, linking arms with an IDR 5 trillion central government project allows the region to leap 10 to 20 steps ahead into the future, turning West Bogor into a highly connected, economically vibrant hub. ***
