RRI.CO.ID, Central Lombok - With the GT World Challenge Asia 2026 just days away, organizers at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), are intensifying preparations to ensure world-class safety and track quality standards.

One of the key upgrades involves the installation and reinforcement of tire barriers at strategic points around the circuit. According to Track Maintenance Officer Lalu Rusman, the process goes beyond simply stacking tires.

Lalu explained that each barrier is assembled systematically, with tires sorted by size, aligned, bolted, and arranged to meet international standards.

“This follows the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) and FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) safety requirements to maximize protection for drivers in case of incidents,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The installation is being carried out in stages until all designated areas are covered. Monthly inspections are also conducted to ensure the barriers remain in optimal condition. “We inspect every month to confirm the barriers are in good shape and properly positioned. This is part of our commitment to driver safety,” Lalu added.

Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) President Director Priandhi Satria emphasized that the tire barrier upgrades are a concrete step toward raising safety standards ahead of the international event.

“We are committed to ensuring all safety elements, including tire barriers, meet FIA and FIM standards so that drivers can compete safely and comfortably at Mandalika,” he said.

Beyond safety, the preparations highlight Mandalika’s readiness to host major global motorsport events. The improvements reinforce Indonesia’s ambition to showcase the circuit as a venue that meets the highest international benchmarks.

With these measures, Mandalika is positioning itself not only as a host for the GT World Challenge Asia but also as a symbol of Indonesia’s growing presence in the global motorsport arena. ***
