RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - A late comeback by Taiwan denied Indonesia’s women’s field hockey team a place in the final of the 2026 Asian Games Qualifiers, as the hosts slipped to a narrow 2-3 semifinal defeat in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Despite the loss, Indonesia had already secured qualification for the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya by finishing top of Pool B, making the semifinal a battle for placement rather than qualification.

Indonesia started strongly, taking the lead in the 14th minute through Innes Aditya. However, Taiwan quickly responded, leveling the score in the 19th minute via Yi-Chin Zhu, Antara reported.

The hosts regained the advantage in the third quarter when Salma Maulani converted a penalty corner in the 34th minute to make it 2-1. Indonesia then had two opportunities to extend their lead but failed to capitalize.

Taiwan punished those missed chances, equalizing through Ya-Han Lai five minutes later before the same player struck again from a penalty corner just before the end of the third quarter, turning the score to 3-2.

In the final quarter, both teams created chances, but neither side was able to find the net again, leaving Taiwan to secure victory and advance to the final.

Following the defeat, Indonesia will compete for third place against Singapore on Wednesday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m. Jakarta time, after Singapore lost 1-3 to Bangladesh in the other semifinal.

Meanwhile, Taiwan will face Bangladesh in the final later that evening at 8 p.m. Jakarta time. ***
