RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian women's badminton team took a 2-0 lead over Taiwan in the 2026 Asian Games quarterfinals after Putri Kusuma Wardani and Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum secured victories at Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, Japan, Tuesday, September 22.
Putri opened the tie by defeating Lin Hsiang-Ti 21-16, 20-22, 21-15 in a closely contested three-game match.
The badminton player, born on July 20, 2002, admitted she initially felt tense and rushed into the match. However, as the match progressed, she managed to play more freely and enjoy the game.
“I had a chance to win the second game, but I was too rushed at the end. Lin Hsiang-Ti played a tight and safe game,” she said in an official Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) statement on Tuesday, September 22.
Putri was grateful to contribute the opening point for Indonesia. “I am happy to contribute a point, and this victory is important for boosting confidence. This result also raises the team's morale,” she said.
The second point came from Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum, who defeated Taiwan's Hsieh Pei Shan/Lin Jhih Yun 21-17, 21-23, 21-11.
Febi said their key to victory was their strategy in the third game. “In the second game, they took control of the attack and our defense was not calm enough, so we made many errors. In the third game, we were calmer and regained control of our defense,” she said after the match.
The Taiwanese pair won the second game through a deuce, but Rachel/Febi bounced back in the decider with solid defense to seal a 21-11 victory. Rachel said their opponents' lack of synchronization gave them an advantage.
“They are a new pair and are not very well synchronized yet, which was quite an advantage for us. However, their individual abilities are strong, so we studied them through videos of each player,” Rachel Allessya said.
The 2-0 lead puts Indonesia in a strong position to secure a place in the 2026 Asian Games semifinals. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
