RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian female tennis player, Janice Tjen, advanced to the second round of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 Madrid Open 2026. Janice's victory came after defeating Alina Charaeva 6-4, 6-2 on Court 7 at Park Manzanares, Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Although she had some difficulties at the beginning of the match, Janice was able to improve her performance in the second set and control the course of the game. Based on match records, she recorded five aces, surpassing Charaeva who recorded three aces.
Janice's superiority is also evident from her minimal errors. She only made three double faults, far fewer than Charaeva, who recorded nine double faults.
In addition, Janice's serve performance is considered solid with a first serve success rate of 74 percent. From that figure, she secured 65 percent of points on her first serve and 67 percent of points on her second serve.
The victory over Alina Charaeva allowed Janice Tjen to advance to the second round of the 2026 Madrid Open. In the second round of the Madrid Open, Janice will face the 20th seed from Russia, Liudmila Samsonova, on Friday, April 24, 2026.
This victory is a breath of fresh air for Janice after being eliminated early in the last four tournaments. In the series of preparations leading up to the "Sunshine Double," she had to end her journey earlier in several tournaments.
Janice was eliminated in the first round of the WTA 500 Merida Open in Mexico, and had similar results at Indian Wells and the Miami Open. Her efforts to bounce back at the WTA 500 Charleston Open have also not yielded positive results.
