RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s dominant performance at the Singapore Open Track & Field Championships 2026 is being seen as evidence of a successful transition between generations, according to Indonsian Athletics Association (PASI) Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Competing at Singapore’s National Stadium from April 15-17, 2026, the Indonesian team emerged as the top gold medal winner, collecting eight golds and one silver. Luhut said the results reflect a healthy balance between experienced athletes and rising talents increasingly taking the spotlight in Southeast Asia.

“These results in Singapore are a signal that regeneration within PASI is progressing well. We see a strong combination of stable senior athletes and young athletes who are gradually dominating the regional stage,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, April 21, as quoted by Antara.

The achievements are expected to boost athletes’ confidence ahead of upcoming international competitions.

Distance runner Daniel Simanjuntak led the medal haul with two golds in the 5,000 meters (14:35.25) and 10,000 meters (31:20.79). Yad Hafizudin also highlighted emerging talent by winning gold in the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 3:54.34.

Young athletes also contributed to sprint and hurdles events, with Novi Anggun Lestari winning the women’s 400m hurdles (1:04.04) and Pandu Sukarya taking gold in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase (9:21.77). Maulana Ismail added a silver in the men’s 400m (47.79).

In field events, Indonesia maintained dominance as Maria Natalia Londa secured gold in the triple jump (12.94m), Atinna Nurkamila Intan won javelin (49.86m), and Idan Fauzan Richsan topped the men’s pole vault (5.00m).

Luhut credited the success to strong support from the government and industry, which has enabled greater international exposure for athletes.

“Support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and strategic partnerships with MIND ID play a central role behind these achievements. This synergy allows us to accelerate athletes’ international experience, maintaining their competitiveness on the global stage,” he concluded. ***
