RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s women’s tennis team strengthened its position in the Billie Jean King Cup Group I Asia/Oceania standings with a dominant 3-0 victory over hosts India in New Delhi on Thursday, April9 , 2026.

Priska Nugroho gave Indonesia a 1-0 lead after a hard-fought win over Vaishnavi Adkar in the opening singles match, lasting three hours and six minutes. After losing the first set in a tiebreak, Priska bounced back to win 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 6-3, taking control in the deciding set, Antara reported.

World No. 41 Janice Tjen then extended the lead to 2-0 with a commanding performance against Sahaja Yamalapalli, winning 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour.

Janice returned to the court after a short 20-minute break to team up with Aldila Sutjiadi in the doubles match. Despite late pressure in the second set, the Indonesian pair secured a straight-sets victory over Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina, 6-3, 7-6(4), completing the clean sweep.

The win continues Indonesia’s strong run in the round-robin competition, following a 2-1 victory over New Zealand and a 3-0 win against Mongolia.

Currently ranked 41 among participating teams, Indonesia is competing against higher-ranked sides including New Zealand (31), Thailand (32), South Korea (35), Mongolia (45), and India (28).

Indonesia now sit second in the Group I Asia/Oceania standings behind South Korea, with Thailand in third, followed by India, New Zealand, and Mongolia.

They will next face South Korea on Friday, April 10, and Thailand on Saturday, April 11, with the top two teams advancing to the playoff round in November, while the bottom two are relegated to Group II Asia/Oceania 2027. ***
