RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s speed climbing team is reshaping its training routine to match competition conditions in China, as athletes prepare for a crucial Asian Games qualifier with split-day racing schedules.
Speed climbing coach Galar Pandu Asmoro said his team is focusing on adjusting training schedules to match the morning-to-night competition timetable at the World Climbing Asia Championship Meishan 2026 in China, which serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Asian Games.
The adjustment comes as speed qualification rounds are scheduled in the morning, while the finals will take place at night.
“With limited time before competition, the team has also been adjusting training hours to match the schedule in China,” Galar said in Jakarta on Monday, April 6, as quoted by Antara.
He said the adjustments had already been implemented during the national training camp in Bekasi.
A one-hour time difference between Indonesia and China has also been taken into account by the coaching staff.
As a result, training sessions that usually start at 08:30 a.m. local time have been moved earlier to 07:30 a.m., helping athletes adapt to the competition rhythm.
The team has also added night training sessions to simulate final-round conditions.
This approach is aimed at ensuring athletes are physically and mentally prepared for competition.
According to Galar, the strategy is based on experience from various International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) events throughout 2025, including stricter qualification systems.
Experience from international competitions and pre-qualification systems such as the Olympics has also become an important foundation for the team heading into Meishan.
“So, adjusting the schedule is one of our preparations,” he further said.
The team arrived in Meishan, China, on Monday morning, with athletes focusing on recovery after a long journey.
Starting Tuesday, April 7, the speed climbers will return to the gymnasium for physical stretching before resuming structured training programs.
“The speed qualification process will begin on Thursday, April 9, morning,” said the former East Java regional coach.
Indonesian team officials and athletes have been in Meishan since Monday morning.
The Indonesian Sport Climbing Association (FPTI) has sent 16 athletes to compete in the championship, which runs from April 7-12. The squad consists of nine speed climbers and seven athletes in lead and boulder disciplines.
The tournament serves as a qualification event for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in September. To qualify, speed athletes must finish at least in the top eight by the end of the competition.
Three Indonesian athletes have already secured their spots at the 2026 Asian Games: Putra Tri Ramadani (men’s lead), Sukma Lintang Cahyani (women’s lead), and Ravianto Ramadhan (men’s boulder).
