RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - After a missed opportunity in the United States, Indonesian racer Mario Suryo Aji is targeting a comeback at the Moto2 Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez on April 27-29, 2026, as Idemitsu Honda Team Asia looks to turn lessons into points.

Team manager Hiroshi Aoyama said the squad will use the break to evaluate performance following a difficult outing at the Americas GP, where Mario failed to score despite showing promise.

“Overall, the weekend did not go as we expected, and we need to clearly understand where we can improve,” Aoyama said, as quoted from the team’s official website by Antara.

He noted that Mario had been running in 15th place and competing for points before crashing in the closing laps. “Unfortunately, Mario crashed near the end while fighting for the points, making it a disappointing result after a tough weekend,” he added.

Aoyama emphasized that the result does not reflect Mario’s true potential and expressed confidence the team can return stronger in the next round. “We will stay focused, keep working, and try to come back stronger in the next race,” he added.

Mario acknowledged that the mistake was his own, despite a solid race performance before and after the red flag. “I think the race was quite good, both before the red flag and after the restart. But in the end, I made a mistake, and it’s entirely my responsibility,” he said.

He added that the Austin race offered valuable lessons ahead of Jerez. “The most important thing now is to reset mentally, recover well, and come back with a stronger mentality in Jerez,” he added.

Mario failed to finish the Moto2 Americas GP after crashing while in 15th position. His teammate Taiyo Furusato placed 18th, while Senna Agius won the race ahead of Celestino Vietti and Izan Guevara. ***
