RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia kept its medal hopes alive at the Swiss Open 2026 after women’s singles shuttler Putri Kusuma Wardani advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Malaysia’s Wong Ling Ching in the round of 16 at St. Jakobshalle, Basel, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026.

In a tightly contested match, Putri secured a straight-games victory 21-17, 21-15, Antara reported. This win sends her into the last eight and keeps Indonesia’s chances alive for a medal at the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament.

Despite the victory, Putri admitted her performance had not been fully optimal. After trailing early in the first game, she managed to recover by playing more patiently and relying on longer rallies. The strategy proved effective in pressuring her opponent, allowing Putri to turn the match around and secure the opening game.

In the second game, she opted for a safer approach by focusing on reducing unforced errors. The Indonesian shuttler also concentrated on maintaining the rhythm of the game in order to force mistakes from her opponent.

The victory puts Putri Kusuma Wardani into the quarterfinals, where she aims to perform more consistently to progress further in the tournament. Putri will next face Thailand’s Pitchamin Opatniputh on Friday night, March 13, for a place in the semifinals. ***
