RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) conducted an evaluation of the national team’s performance at the All England Open Badminton Championships 2026.

Although the target of winning a title was not achieved, the federation noted several positive aspects, particularly the progress of young players who were able to compete at a high level in one of the most prestigious tournaments on the BWF World Tour calendar.

Head of Development and Achievement at PBSI, Eng Hian, said the results provided two key points of attention for the federation.

“On the positive side, the development of young players shows encouraging progress. They were able to compete competitively in a high-level and high-pressure tournament like the All England. This indicates that the regeneration process is underway and that young players are beginning to compete at the highest level,” he said, as quoted on PBSI's official website.

Special recognition was given to the Raymond Indra/Joaquin pair, who advanced to the semifinals. Along the way, they defeated the fifth-seeded and third-seeded pairs. In the semifinals, they also put up strong resistance against the world number one pair and defending champions. “Performances like this show that they have the potential and quality to continue developing,” Eng Hian added.

On the other hand, PBSI acknowledged that the target of winning a title was not met. This has become the basis for a comprehensive evaluation, covering match strategy and the consistency of athletes’ performances during crucial phases of the tournament.

“We will conduct a thorough evaluation with the coaching team and support staff at the national training center to identify areas that need improvement so athletes can perform optimally and consistently in major tournaments in the future. PBSI will continue to seek more effective training methods to ensure athletes’ potential develops optimally and they can compete consistently at the highest level,” Eng Hian explained.

PBSI also expressed its understanding of the high expectations of the Indonesian public for badminton achievements, especially at tournaments such as the All England. The federation extended its apologies for not meeting the target and conveyed gratitude for the prayers and support given to the national team.

Following the All England, the Indonesian team will continue its European competition series at the Swiss Open, also on the BWF World Tour calendar. The tournament is expected to provide an opportunity for athletes to once again demonstrate their best performances and deliver strong results for Indonesia. ***
