RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen exited the women’s doubles in the round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open 2026, a WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, on Monday, March 9.

Partnering with Taipei’s Chan Hao-ching, Janice was unable to overcome seventh seeds Cristina Bucsa and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, who won a closely contested match decided by a super tie-break, 7-6(10), 4-6, 10-5, according to WTA records, Antara reported.

Both pairs relied heavily on their serves throughout the match. Bucsa/Melichar-Martinez produced two aces and landed 74.4 percent of their first serves, while Janice/Chan led in first-serve points won with 87 percent.

At 3-3 in the first set, Janice/Chan moved ahead by winning the seventh game. The pairs continued to exchange points until 6-6, forcing a tie-break that also went down to the wire. Janice/Chan won 12 of 22 points in the tie-break to take the first set.

The Indonesian–Taipei duo then led early in the second set before Bucsa/Melichar-Martinez rallied to level the score at 3-3. Although Janice/Chan recorded a 77.8 percent first-serve rate, Bucsa/Melichar-Martinez responded strongly, winning 83.3 percent of their first-serve points, hitting one ace, and converting both break points to secure the second set.

In the third set, Janice/Chan committed one double fault that the Spanish–American pair capitalized on to maintain momentum. Bucsa/Melichar-Martinez closed the match after one hour and 46 minutes, winning the super tie-break.

The seventh seeds will next face the winners of the match between Ingrid Neel/Peyton Stearns and thesecond seeds Gabriela Dabrowski/Luisa Stefani in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Janice’s campaign at the WTA 1000 Indian Wells also ended in the singles event after a first-round loss to Jaqueline Cristian, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(8). ***
