RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian men’s doubles shuttlers Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin ended their campaign in the semifinals of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 All England Open Badminton Championships 2026. They were eliminated after losing to South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Sung Jae, 19-21, 13-21.
The match took place at Utilita Arena Birmingham, England, on Sunday, March 8. Indonesia had placed its hopes on the men’s doubles category after other representatives were eliminated earlier.
Raymond and Joaquin struggled against their opponents' fast pace at the start of the first game, trailing 3-7. They then scored seven consecutive points, taking an 11-8 lead and briefly controlling the rhythm. However, Kim and Seo regained momentum midway through the game and closed it with a 21-19 win.
In the second game, Raymond and Joaquin attempted to vary their attacks, but the South Korean pair remained solid and led 11-7 at the interval. The top-seeded duo maintained their dominance until the end, sealing victory with a 21-13 scoreline.
Raymond said he was grateful despite the defeat, admitting that a lapse in concentration allowed his opponents to turn the match around. “They have the strength to perform consistently, especially in the final points,” he said in a statement on the official PBSI website.
Joaquin described the All England experience as valuable, noting that every opponent in the Super 1000 level was tough. “Everyone is on the same level in the Super 1000. The higher the level, the harder it gets,” he said.
This defeat means Indonesia will have no representatives in the 2026 All England final. Earlier, Indonesia’s men’s singles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles players had also been eliminated in the quarterfinals. ***
