RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana saw their All England 2026 campaign cut short in the opening round, falling to Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan after struggling to execute their game plan.
Competing at the Utilita Arena Birmingham on Tuesday, March 3, Leo/Bagas were defeated straight set, 13–21, 19–21. The duo admitted their strategy unraveled against opponents who played with unexpected intensity.
“We had studied their matches through video, but what we faced today was very different on court,” Bagas said in a statement released by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), as quoted by Antara.
Leo explained that he and Bagas had prepared tactics to counter Lee/Yang, whom they had met in three previous tournaments. However, the plan faltered as the Taiwanese pair dictated the tempo with sharper aggression.
“In our past meetings, they weren’t this active or powerful. Today, they knew exactly how to play against us,” Leo noted.
Despite the early exit, Leo dismissed suggestions of pressure from fans at the prestigious BWF Super 1000 event. “We didn’t feel burdened. Reaching the final last year actually motivated us to aim higher. We accept this result,” he said. ***
