RRI.CO.ID, Depok - The Indonesian national hockey teams are stepping up preparations in pursuit of qualification for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Athletes have been sharpening their skills through centralized training in Depok, West Java, on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The intensive program is designed to ensure the Merah Putih squads can compete strongly in next year’s Asian qualifying rounds. Both the men’s and women’s teams are targeting top performances to bring pride to the nation on the international stage.

The Indonesian Hockey Federation (FHI) has been managing training sessions at Eden Sport Centre, West Java, since January 2026, with funding provided independently by the federation.

The men’s team will begin their qualification campaign in Oman from March 28 to April 5, 2026, while the women’s qualifiers are scheduled for Jakarta from April 20 to 30, 2026.

FHI Secretary-General Yasser Arafat Suaidy confirmed that the men’s squad will depart for Malaysia on Sunday, March 1, 2026, for a series of trial matches. The overseas program will continue in Hong Kong and China, involving 20 senior players and six juniors. The women’s team, comprising 19 athletes, will also play abroad, with fixtures planned in Hong Kong.

“These trial matches are crucial for building teamwork and refining player performance. The goal is to ensure both teams can compete at their best in the qualifiers and secure a place at the Asian Games Nagoya 2026,” Yasser said, as quoted by Antara.

Following their stint in China, the men’s team will head directly to Oman without returning to Indonesia. Star player Adi Wirawan Leksono and teammates are set to face Hong Kong in their opening match on March 28, 2026.

Indonesia’s men’s team has been drawn into Group A alongside Oman, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Hong Kong. Group B features Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, and Uzbekistan.

Head Coach Muhammad Dhaarma Raj bin Abdullah has been closely monitoring the athletes’ physical and mental readiness throughout training. He emphasized that the target is to replicate the success achieved four years ago, when the men’s team finished third and the women’s team placed fifth at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

“Qualification will be tough. The men’s team must finish in the top six, while the women’s team needs to reach the top four. But we are determined to repeat the success of four years ago,” Dhaarma Raj said.

The national squads, supported by coaching and medical staff, are united in their ambition to deliver strong results and elevate Indonesia’s standing in Asian hockey.
