RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen exited the singles draw of the Mérida Open in Mexico after losing in the first round to Colombia’s Camila Osorio on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, local time.

Competing as the sixth seed in the WTA 500 tournament, the 23-year-old from Jakarta started strongly but eventually fell 4-6, 3-6, according to WTA records.

Janice opened the first set aggressively, building a 4-1 lead. Osorio disrupted her rhythm with slice shots and drop shots that proved decisive. Although Janice led in first-serve points and saved both break points she faced in the opening set, Osorio converted three of five break-point opportunities to take the set after 41 minutes.

The second set remained close, with Janice leveling at 3-3. Osorio responded with sustained pressure, hitting three aces and winning the next two games to take control. Janice, who this week broke into the world’s Top 40 rankings, struggled with unforced errors at key moments. In the ninth game of the second set, she conceded four points that allowed Osorio to close out the match.

Despite the singles defeat, Janice remains in the tournament through the doubles competition. She is partnering again with Poland’s Katarzyna Piter, with whom she won the WTA 250 Guangzhou title last year.

The Janice-Piter pair will face Britain’s Madeleine Brooks and China’s Shuo Feng in their opening doubles match on Wednesday morning, February 25, Jakarta time. ***
