RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is targeting at least one title at the 2026 All England Open as it sends a 24-player squad to compete at one of badminton’s most prestigious tournaments, set for March 3-8, 2026, at the Utilita Arena Birmingham, England.
The All England Open Badminton Championships is part of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 series, the highest tier on the international calendar, and is widely regarded as a benchmark of quality, consistency and mental resilience. At this level, athletes face the world’s best, demanding peak physical, technical, tactical and psychological readiness.
Head of Development and Achievement at the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), Eng Hian, said preparations have been structured and comprehensive, with special attention to acclimatization in Europe.
The team will undergo an adaptation program in Milton Keynes, about 120 kilometers south of Birmingham, from February 24-28, before moving to Birmingham on March 1 to fine-tune preparations at the competition venue.
“Acclimatization is crucial. We want players to enter the arena fully prepared physically, technically and mentally,” Eng Hian said on Sunday, February 22, as quoted on PBSI official website, adding that the location was chosen based on training facilities, athlete comfort and effective transition to tournament conditions.
Several Indonesian players will make their All England Super 1000 debuts this year, including Alwi Farhan, men’s doubles pair Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin, Rahmat Hidayat, women’s doubles pair Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum, Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, mixed doubles pair Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Pasaribu, and Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah.
Their participation is expected to broaden competitive experience and strengthen Indonesia’s long-term development pipeline.
“Competing at the Super 1000 level is a test of quality and mentality. We want them to embrace the pressure, learn from a major event and show their best performance,” Eng Hian added.
To maintain consistency and inject fresh dynamics into the squad, PBSI has also adjusted its men’s doubles coaching structure. Chafidz Yusuf will serve as assistant coach for the main men’s doubles squad alongside Antonius, while Thomas Indratjaja will assist Andrei Adistia in the second-tier unit.
The federation said the reshuffle aims to provide new perspectives without altering the overall development strategy as Indonesia pursues a podium finish in Birmingham. ***
