RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen was eliminated in the second round of the Qatar Total Energies Open 2026 after losing to world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in Doha on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, as the Polish top seed delivered an aggressive performance to secure a straight-sets victory.
Competing on a wildcard entry in the WTA 1000 tournament, Janice was unable to counter Swiatek’s dominant play and fell 0-6, 3-6, according to the WTA, Antara reported.
Swiatek controlled the match from the opening game, using sharp cross-court winners to dictate play. The Polish star kept points short and prevented Janice from developing her rhythm, while the Jakarta-born player struggled with her serve.
Swiatek capitalized on a double fault by Janice in the sixth game and wrapped up the opening set in just 26 minutes, recording a 90 percent return rate and converting three of six break points.
Despite losing the first set without winning a game, Janice showed resilience in the second set. The world No. 46 raised her level and pushed Swiatek, leveling the score at 3-3.
The six-time Grand Slam champion regained control after surviving a lengthy deuce in the seventh game. Swiatek then accelerated to close out the match with an ace, sealing victory in one hour and nine minutes.
Swiatek will face Daria Kasatkina in the round of 16 on Wednesday, February 11.
For Janice, the loss marked the end of her run in the second round in her WTA 1000 debut, following a notable first-round victory over Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets.
Prior to Doha, Janice also made her debut at a WTA 500 event in Abu Dhabi, where she won her opening match against rising Australian player Maya Joint in three sets before falling in the second round to fifth seed Liudmila Samsonova.
Despite the singles setbacks, Janice posted a positive result in doubles at the Abu Dhabi Open, reaching the semifinals alongside Filipino player Alexandra Eala after defeating second seeds Zhang Shuai and Cristina Bucsa. ***
