Indonesian Athletes Record Personal Bests at Asian Indoor Championships

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian athletics team concluded its campaign at the 12th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tianjin, China, held February 6-8, 2026, with several athletes delivering competitive performances and achieving personal bests against strong continental rivals.

Chairman of the Indonesian Athletics Federation (PASI), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, praised the athletes’ determination and highlighted the event as a key evaluation ahead of a packed competition calendar in 2026.

“This championship is an early test for our athletes in 2026 to measure their training progress after the SEA Games. I appreciate the young athletes who managed to break their personal bests on the Asian stage,” Luhut said in a written statement, as quoted by Antara.

On the opening day, shot put athlete Lina Hisage placed sixth with a throw of 12.07 meters, marking a personal best. Sprinter Lalu Muhammad Zohri finished sixth in the men’s 60 meters with a time of 6.69 seconds. 

Meanwhile, Maulana Ismail ranked fifth in Heat 1 of the men’s 400 meters, and Dwiky Firmansyah placed 11th in the men’s high jump final with a leap of 2.00 meters.

Day two saw Shava Salvia Waranggani record a personal best of 7.65 seconds in the women’s 60 meters, finishing fifth in Heat 2. Brian Bagas Swara came sixth in Heat 2 of the men’s 60-meter hurdles with 8.30 seconds. In the women’s 3,000 meters, Odekta Elvina Naibaho finished eighth in 9:58.72, while Wilna Selvi placed 10th in 10:49.55.

On the final day, Yad Hafizuddin finished 10th in the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:03.79, and Vincensia Awutet Amrajam placed 10th in the women’s long jump final with a leap of 5.76 meters.

PASI also expressed appreciation to MIND ID, its strategic partner, for supporting the sustainability of national athletics development programs.

According to Luhut, Indonesia’s participation in the championship reflects PASI’s commitment to strengthening competitiveness, expanding international experience, and preparing athletes for upcoming Asian and global competitions. ***
