RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian women’s badminton team settled for a bronze medal after losing 1-3 to South Korea in the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championship (BATC) semifinal on Sunday, February 8, 2026, following a tightly contested tie that highlighted both the team’s fighting spirit and areas for improvement.

The semifinal match, held at the Qingdao Conson Gymnasium, China, was decided after four matches, with South Korea taking an early lead through victories in the opening women’s singles and first women’s doubles, Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) reported.

In the first match, Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan was defeated by Kim Ga Eun 5-21, 4-21. Korea then extended their advantage as Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum lost to Baek Ha Na and Kim Hye Jeong 14-21, 10-21.

Indonesia responded through Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi, who delivered a crucial point by defeating Park Ga Eun 21-14, 21-13 in the second women’s singles, keeping Indonesia’s hopes alive.

However, South Korea sealed the tie in the second women’s doubles. Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi fell narrowly to Lee Seo Jin/Lee Yeon Woo in straight but close games, 19-21, 19-21. The final women’s singles between Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo and Kim Min Ji was not played.

After the match, Rachel Allessya Rose said Indonesia struggled to reduce unforced errors against a disciplined Korean pair. Febi Setianingrum added that despite being a newly formed partnership, their opponents played with patience that Indonesia could not fully counter.

Ni Kadek Dhinda credited focus and team support for her singles win, saying she was able to maintain consistency despite Indonesia trailing early in the tie.

Team captain Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti acknowledged the disappointment of failing to deliver the deciding point but expressed gratitude for the team’s overall achievement. She noted that with several junior singles players, Indonesia had still met its target by reaching the podium.

The bronze medal marks a positive result for Indonesia’s women’s team as it continues to build experience and depth at the international level. ***
