RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia completed a dramatic comeback to defeat Malaysia 3-2 and secure the top spot in Group D of the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) after Anthony Sinisuka Ginting clinched the decisive point in the final singles match on Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Qingdao, China.
Playing at Conson Gymnasium, Ginting overcame Malaysia’s Kong Wei Xiang in a three-game battle, winning 21-17, 13-21, 21-16, to seal Indonesia’s victory after the team had earlier fallen behind 0-2, Antara reported.
Indonesia’s slow start began with Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah losing the opening singles match to Justin Hoh 16-21, 19-21. The deficit widened when men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana were beaten by Junaidi Arif/Roy King Yap 13-21, 21-12, 13-21.
The comeback was sparked by Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo, who kept Indonesia alive by defeating Eogene Ewe 21-12, 14-21, 21-15 to cut the score to 1-2.
Momentum then swung Indonesia’s way in the second men’s doubles match. Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin produced a resilient performance to level the tie at 2-2, defeating Choong Hon Jian/Muhammad Haikal Nazri 16-21, 21-11, 21-19.
After dropping the first game, Raymond/Joaquin dominated the second with aggressive play, leading 11-3 at the interval. The deciding game was tightly contested, tied at 19-19 before a brief stoppage due to Muhammad Haikal Nazri suffering a nosebleed. Upon resumption, the Indonesian pair capitalized on Malaysian errors to close out the match.
With the score tied, Ginting took center stage in the deciding singles match. After an evenly contested opening, he pulled ahead to lead 11-7 at the interval of the first game and closed it 21-17. Kong responded strongly in the second game, winning 21-13 to force a decider.
In the final game, Ginting asserted control early, leading 11-8 at the interval. Despite pressure from Kong late in the match, the Indonesian maintained his composure to secure a 21-16 win and complete the turnaround.
The result confirmed Indonesia as Group D winners after finishing the group stage with a 3-2 victory over Malaysia.
