RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Indonesian women’s badminton team has secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC), advancing as Group X runners-up despite a narrow 2-3 defeat to Japan in their final group-stage match at Conson Gymnasium, Qingdao, China, on Thursday, February 5.

The team’s campaign was capped by Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya Pratiwi, who delivered a spirited performance in the fifth match to reduce the margin of defeat. Dhinda overcame Japan’s Yuzuno Watanabe in straight games, 21-6, 22-20, ensuring Indonesia closed the tie on a competitive note.

“I’m happy to have the chance to play at BATC and even happier to contribute a point with the full support of my teammates behind me,” Dhinda said after the match, as quoted by Antara.

Although the result no longer affected Indonesia’s group standing, Dhinda remained determined. She dominated the opening game with sharp net play and precise attacks that left her opponent struggling. 

In the second game, she clawed back from a significant deficit, forced a deuce, and sealed victory with a decisive backhand assault. 

“In the first game I played more boldly despite the wind disadvantage. In the second, I was trailing, but my coach reminded me to stay focused, adapt, and enjoy the match,” she explained.

Indonesia’s path to the quarterfinals began with a setback when Thalita Ramadhani Wiryawan fell to Riko Gunji, 14-21, 16-21. The score was leveled at 1-1 after doubles pair Rachel Allessya Rose/Febi Setianingrum battled through three games to defeat their Japanese rivals, 21-12, 18-21, 23-21.

Japan regained control as Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari was outplayed by Hina Akechi, losing 2-21, 9-21. 

The fourth match saw Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti edged out by Kie Nakanishi and Miyu Takahashi, 20-22, 16-21, which sealed Japan’s overall victory before Dhinda’s late contribution narrowed the final scoreline.

With this result, Indonesia finishes second in Group X and advances to the quarterfinals of BATC 2026. Their opponent in the last eight will be determined by a draw once all group-stage matches conclude. ***
