RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup on Thursday, January 29, 2026, after overcoming a strong comeback from Kyrgyzstan to claim a 5-3 victory, sealing top spot in Group A with a perfect record at Indonesia Arena, Jakarta.

The result secured Indonesia a place in the last eight with a perfect six points from two matches, matching the nation’s best-ever achievement at the tournament, previously reached at the 2022 edition in Kuwait, Antara reported.

Indonesia faced strong resistance despite scoring five goals for the second consecutive match. Kyrgyzstan opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Makhmadaminov Sokhrukh, but Indonesia responded a minute later when captain Iqbal Iskandar capitalized on a goalkeeping error to equalize.

Indonesia took a 2-1 lead in the 12th minute after being awarded a penalty, which Firman Ardiansyah converted. The hosts extended their advantage to 3-1 in the 25th minute when Rio Pangestu finished a well-weighted pass from Ardiansyah Nur.

However, Kyrgyzstan mounted a comeback, leveling the score at 3-3 through a low strike from Makhmadaminov Sokhrukh and a penalty converted by Alimov Maksat.

Indonesia quickly regained control of the match. Playing with greater composure, Ardiansyah Nur restored the lead at 4-3 in the 29th minute, before Israr Megantara sealed the victory with a goal in the 34th minute.

The win ensured Indonesia finished top of Group A, holding a six-point lead over third- and fourth-placed Kyrgyzstan and South Korea; both were eliminated from the tournament.

Iraq also booked a quarterfinal spot after edging South Korea 3-2 in the group’s other match. Iraq led through Haedr Majed late in the first half, before South Korea responded with goals from Kim Gunwoo and Eom Jiyong. Iraq reclaimed the lead with late goals from Salim Faisal in the 38th minute and Salim Kadhim Mawar in the 40th minute.

Both Indonesia and Iraq now have six points and will face each other in the final Group A match on Saturday, January 31, at Indonesia Arena to determine the group winner. In the quarterfinals, teams from Group A will face opponents from Group B, currently led by Thailand and Vietnam. ***
