RRI.CO.ID, Nakhon Ratchasima - The formidable duo of Komet Akbar and Banyu Tri Mulyo clinched gold at the final match of the ASEAN Para Games 2026 Thailand table tennis event at Central Plaza Nakhon Ratchasima, Sunday, January 25, 2026. They overpowered the home team representatives from Thailand, C. Punpoo/B. Sillapakong, in front of their own crowd.

Komet-Banyu duo successfully secured the gold medal in the Men's Double Class MD18 event after winning three consecutive matches with decisive scores of 11-4, 11-5, and 11-9.

"It was really tight earlier because we were playing the home team, and they're still young, but they've already competed in the Paralympics. They're one of our toughest rivals in Southeast Asia," Komet stated after the match on Sunday, 25 January afternoon.

The Indonesian contingent added another gold medal to their tally because of Komet-Banyu's hard work. According to Komet, the table tennis team's preparation is so thorough that they can achieve the highest level of success. In this event, their duet was indeed targeted to win a gold medal.

"We are indeed targeted for a gold medal, so our preparation is truly extraordinary. The NPC (National Paralympic Committee) national training camp has been ongoing for almost a year, and we have been training every day, really pushing ourselves. Especially since Thailand is the host, we will definitely prepare carefully for today," Komet stated.

After the match in Thailand, both teams immediately prepared for national training for the 2026 Asian Para Games, hoping to qualify for the highest level of sports in the world, the 2028 LA Paralympics.

"For the nearest target, we will immediately train again at the national training center for the match in Japan, hopefully we can get the best results. We also hope to qualify for the upcoming 2028 Paralympics," Komet, a young man from Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi conveyed.

"We dedicate this gold medal to our parents, children, and wives because their support has been incredible, even though I rarely go home. NPC (National Paralympic Committee) Indonesia is a true home away from home for athletes, because I also rarely go home. We are working hard to present this gold to the Indonesian people," he said.
