RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian young shuttler Alwi Farhan delivered a breakthrough moment for the host nation by clinching the men’s singles crown at the BWF World Tour Super 500 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters 2026, held at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
The 19-year-old showcased commanding form in the final, sweeping aside Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul in straight games, 21-5, 21-6, in just 25 minutes.
The victory marked a significant achievement for Indonesia, ending a drought in the men’s singles category after failing to secure the title in the past two editions. The last home triumph came in 2023, when Jonatan Christie defeated Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in an all-Indonesian final.
From the opening game, Alwi asserted control, racing to a 6-1 lead and extending the margin to 9-2 as Teeraratsakul struggled with unforced errors. Alwi’s momentum proved unstoppable, surging to a 13-4 advantage after the mid-game interval and closing the first game 21-5 with a deft drop shot.
The second game followed a similar script. Alwi seized the opening rally and quickly built an 11-2 lead at the interval, leaving his opponent little room to recover. A run of seven consecutive points pushed the score to 18-5 before another well-placed drop shot sealed the match 21-6, sparking loud cheers from the Istora crowd.
Speaking after the victory, Alwi said the Indonesia Masters title would serve as valuable motivation for upcoming tournaments. “My next target is the Thailand Masters. I want to perform even better there,” he remarked.
He also expressed hope that his success would inspire Indonesia’s younger generation of players. “I want to tell the juniors that one day, you too can stand here,” Alwi said. ***
