RRI.CO.ID, Nakhon Ratchasima - The Indonesian contingent has achieved a remarkable milestone at the ASEAN Para Games 2025 in Thailand, collecting 101 gold medals, far surpassing the initial target of 82.

As of Saturday evening, January 24, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. Jakarta time, Indonesia’s official tally stood at 101 gold, 103 silver, and 92 bronze medals. The achievement places Indonesia firmly in second position on the provisional standings, behind host nation Thailand.

Deputy Secretary-General of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia, Rima Ferdianto, expressed deep appreciation for the athletes’ efforts.

"Alhamdulillah, from the target of 82 gold medals, we have already reached 101. This is far beyond expectations," Rima said.

Indonesian para-athletics coach Setiyo Budi Hartanto also voiced relief at the team’s performance, noting that the government and NPC support played a crucial role. He admitted initial concerns over event classifications, which he felt were made more challenging by the organizers.

"At first we were pessimistic because several events were combined in ways that were not ideal. Some classifications were merged with higher-level categories, making it tougher for our athletes," Setiyo explained.

Para athletics became the biggest contributor with a total of 38 gold and 37 silver medals. Para swimming followed with 22 golds and 29 silver medals.

The Indonesian para judo team performed impressively, sweeping all seven available gold medals. Para powerlifting also successfully met its target, collecting eight gold medals for the contingent.

The para badminton team collected five gold medals and still has the opportunity to add more on Sunday. Two additional gold medals are already guaranteed due to all-Indonesian finals.

With one and a half days of competition remaining, Indonesia’s position as runner-up appears secure. Malaysia, currently in third place, has only 49 gold medals, while Thailand dominates the standings with 143 gold and 135 silver medals.

"We hope to add more golds before the Games conclude, but our second-place finish is already locked in. The gap is too wide for Malaysia, the Philippines, or Vietnam to catch us," Rima emphasized.

Indonesia has fielded many debut athletes as part of its regeneration strategy ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics. Despite the removal of several key events by the organizers, the team has continued to excel.

Setiyo highlighted the importance of new facilities in Delingan, Karanganyar, which now feature modern athletics tracks and equipment. "We already have excellent facilities and more advanced tools, which greatly support athlete preparation," he said.
