RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s para-athletes are rewriting records at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand, collecting medals at a pace that has surpassed expectations and initial targets.

By Thursday, January 23, 2026, the national contingent had secured 213 medals, consisting of 69 golds, 75 silvers, and 69 bronzes.

The achievement far exceeded the preliminary target of 43 gold medals set for the third day of competition. Thursday alone marked Indonesia’s most prolific day, with athletes winning 108 medals, including 29 golds, 36 silvers, and 43 bronzes.

Para-athletics and para-swimming have been the backbone of Indonesia’s medal haul. The athletics team contributed 29 gold medals, while the swimming squad added 15. Table tennis also played a significant role in strengthening the tally.

Chef de Mission Reda Manthovani expressed pride in the athletes’ performance during a press conference monitored from Jakarta on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

He noted that 11 sports had already met their medal targets, with the largest contributions coming from athletics, swimming, and table tennis.

A highlight came from the pool, where Bayu Putra Yuda broke the ASEAN Para Games record in the men’s 200-meter freestyle S10 to claim gold.

Reda said such achievements reflect the overall improvement in athlete performance, pointing to several records that Indonesian athletes have broken in the first three days.

Indonesia is competing in 381 of the 502 final events, representing about 76 percent of the total. With two days of competition remaining, the team is scheduled to take part in another 205 events.

Officials project an additional 40 gold medals from strongholds such as para-badminton, para-chess, and para-table tennis.

Reda credited the athletes’ success to improved training programs, strong support from officials, and encouragement from the Indonesian public. He expressed optimism that the “Merah Putih” contingent will close the Games with the best possible results. ***
