RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian rally driver Julian Johan, better known as Jeje, has etched his name into motorsport history by completing the grueling Rally Dakar 2026 with remarkable results.
Partnering with French navigator Mathieu Monplaisi, Jeje finished fifth overall, secured third place in the H2 category, and claimed victory in the Iconic Class, an achievement that exceeded his initial target of simply finishing the race.
“Hopefully, this result can serve as inspiration and bring positive energy for Indonesia, especially for the automotive and sports communities. Finally, there is an Indonesian who has managed to complete the Dakar Rally,” Jeje said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The Dakar Rally, widely regarded as the toughest rally competition in the world, spans approximately 8,000 kilometers across extreme terrain ranging from deserts to rocky landscapes. Jeje’s success not only highlights his endurance and skill but also marks a significant milestone for Indonesian motorsport.
His participation was fully supported by global lubricant brand Motul, the Official Partner of Rally Dakar 2026. Motul has long been a backer of Jeje, including in previous international rally events such as the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) in 2023 and 2024.
Managing Director of PT Motul Indonesia Energy (MIE), Welmart Purba, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Indonesian drivers on the global stage. “Motul’s support is not just about products, but also about the belief in helping Indonesian racers push beyond the limits of extreme motorsport competitions,” he said.
Jeje’s ability to complete every stage and secure a podium finish demonstrates that Indonesian drivers are capable of competing, and excelling, at the highest level of world rally racing. ***
