RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesian men’s singles shuttler Anthony Sinisuka Ginting delivered a commanding performance in the qualifying round of the 2026 Indonesia Masters, sweeping aside Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen 21-12, 21-7 at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 20.
From the outset, Ginting controlled the tempo, racing to an 11-6 lead before the first-game interval. Wangcharoen briefly narrowed the gap to 13-10, but Ginting quickly regained momentum to close the opener 21-12.
The second game saw Ginting step up his attacking play, aided by favorable court conditions. He surged ahead 11-4 at the interval and never looked back, sealing the match with a 21-7 finish.
Ginting’s return to the court was met with lively support from the Istora crowd, whose enthusiasm exceeded his expectations.
“It was beyond what I imagined. Usually, on qualification day, the stands aren’t this full because the players aren’t as well-known. But today, it was crowded, and you can’t deny that,” Ginting said after the match.
He noted that more affordable ticket prices this year have helped attract fans to watch live. “Tickets for the Indonesia Masters this year are much cheaper than before, which makes it more appealing,” he added.
With this victory, Ginting advances to the round of 32, where he will face Belgium’s Julien Carraggi on Wednesday, January 21, at Istora Senayan. (Diffa Sephiawardhani/Sri Wahyuni)
