RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian indoor hockey player Muhamad Alfiana, widely known as Alfin, is continuing to make his mark abroad, competing this season in the German Indoor Hockey League 2 with Bremer Hockey Club.
Despite his international achievements, he remains employed on an honorary basis at the Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office of Sukabumi City, West Java. Alfin says hockey has taken him far beyond what he ever imagined.
“I never thought I could travel to countries in Asia and Europe. Alhamdulillah, I’ve been to Russia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, and Germany thanks to hockey,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Alfin was part of the West Java Men’s Indoor Hockey team, which achieved a rare hat-trick of victories at the National Sports Week (PON) in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
On the international stage, he helped Indonesia’s national indoor hockey team make history by winning gold at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia and defending the title at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
“I dedicate these gold medals to my family, the people of Sukabumi, West Java, and Indonesia,” he said.
Despite his accomplishments, Alfin has remained an honorary employee since 2018. He expressed hope that his achievements will be formally recognized.
“I don’t understand why I haven’t been appointed yet. Perhaps it was affected by the change of administration after the 2023 SEA Games. I hope for attention from Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, West Java Governor Kang Dedi Mulyadi, and Sukabumi Mayor H. Ayep Zaki,” he explained.
Alfin’s skills have drawn interest from overseas clubs. In 2025, he played for President Hockey Club in the Czech Republic. This year, he joins forces with fellow Indonesian Adi Darmawan Leksono at Bremer Hockey Club in Germany’s second division, with the 2026 season running until February 14.
“Playing in Germany is a special honor because this country is strong in indoor hockey. I want to gain more experience to continue contributing to the national team,” he said.
Alfin revealed that the IDR 500 million bonus from the 2025 SEA Games will be used for his children’s future savings, investments, and to send his parents on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
Born in Sukabumi on February 16, 1995, Alfin discovered hockey in high school and chose to pursue it because it was less popular and offered opportunities for growth. He later earned a master’s degree from the Indonesian Education University. ***
