KBRN, Tokyo: The Indonesian National Amputee Football Team has arrived in Japan to compete in the International Challenge Cup (ICC) 2026 Tokyo, held from January 16 to 18 at the Komazawa Olympic Park General Sports Ground Athletics Stadium. The squad is determined to showcase its skills on the global stage.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo has extended full support to the team. Maria Renata Hutagalung, the Ad Interim Chargé d’Affaires, welcomed the athletes and underscored that their participation carries significance beyond sports.

“Thank you for your presence at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo. The ICC 2026 is not only a sporting competition but also a platform for fostering friendship among nations, as you indirectly serve as ambassadors for Indonesia,” she said during a reception.

Maria also emphasized the potential for collaboration between the Indonesian Amputee Football Association (PSAI) and the Japan Amputee Football Association (JAFA), particularly in technical training and exchange programs. She expressed hope that amputee football would continue to grow in Indonesia and achieve success internationally.

The tournament presents a formidable challenge for the “Merah Putih” squad. Indonesia will face host nation Japan on the opening day, followed by Poland on the second day and Spain on the final day.

Rusharmanto, Secretary-General of PSAI, expressed gratitude for the embassy’s hospitality, noting that the warm welcome, including a shared meal with embassy staff, was a memorable first experience for the team.

He described the ICC as an important stepping stone, with the hope that Indonesian players might receive invitations to future competitions or opportunities to play in Japan’s domestic league.

The Indonesian team competing in Tokyo consists of 11 players: Aditya, Ajis Pirmansyah, Agung Rizki Satria, Sahata Sianturi, Ahmad Anuar, Ilham Zam Zami, Riski Adi Pradana, Piat Supriatna, Imat Hermawan, Junaidi Abdillah, and Rahmad Yusuf. (Naura Sofia/Lasti Martina)
