RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia's top junior tennis prospect Ethan Jake Frans has begun a three-week Asian Tennis Federation development program in Paris following his 2026 Wimbledon Boys' U-14 debut from July 4 to July 12, 2026, a move expected to strengthen the country's future competitiveness in international tennis.
The program, organized by the Asian Tennis Federation, is expected to further sharpen Ethan's skills and prepare him for upcoming international tournaments while building on the experience he gained competing at one of tennis' most prestigious events.
"Ethan flew directly to Paris to join several Asian Tennis Federation programs for three weeks," his mother, former Indonesian national tennis player Wynne Prakusya, said on Monday, July 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Wynne said competing at Wimbledon had given Ethan valuable experience and greater confidence to challenge the world's best young players. "Hopefully, playing at Wimbledon will continue to motivate Ethan to improve and achieve more in the future," said Wynne, who was formerly ranked world No. 74 in women's singles.
She admitted Ethan's Wimbledon result fell short of the team's target of finishing among the top six before traveling to London.
However, she said the outcome was heavily influenced by a difficult draw, which paired Ethan against U-14 world No. 1 Novak Palombo of New Zealand and Europe's top-ranked U-14 player Liam Sharkey of Great Britain in his opening group-stage matches. "The Wimbledon result could have been better, but the draw was quite difficult," she said.
"Our target was at least a top six finish, so we missed it. But at Wimbledon, Ethan needed experience and exposure more than results. To become a great player, you have to compete in great tournaments," she added.
Ethan finished ninth in the Wimbledon U-14 boys' singles competition. After losing his first two group-stage matches, he bounced back by winning his next three matches, including two consolation-round victories, to secure a top-10 finish.
The 14-year-old made history as the first Indonesian junior player to receive an invitation to compete at the Championships, Wimbledon, after becoming Asia's No. 1 U-14 player and breaking into the world's top 10 in the U-14 Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).
He has also become the first Indonesian player to win both the IMG International Junior Championship U-12 and the Junior Orange Bowl U-12 titles. ***
