KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC Indonesia) views the 2025 ASEAN Para Games (APG) in Thailand as a strategic opportunity to strengthen the development of young athletes with disabilities. The regional sporting event is scheduled to take place from January 20 to 26, 2026.
NPC Indonesia Chair Senny Marbun underscored the committee’s commitment to giving young athletes international exposure. “We are now targeting young athletes who competed in the Asian Youth Para Games to participate in the 2025 APG in Thailand,” Senny said in Solo on Wednesday, January 14, as quoted by Antara.
He explained that fielding young athletes at the senior level is a crucial step in building a sustainable coaching system. International competition, he added, can accelerate both mental and technical maturity. “We must boldly present them, so that our preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics will be more advanced. Regeneration must be maximized to maintain Indonesia’s tradition of achievement,” he said.
Senny emphasized that this is the right time to expand opportunities for young athletes, with the aim of developing new talent ready to elevate Indonesia’s prestige on the global stage.
At the 2025 APG in Thailand, Indonesia will send 290 athletes to compete in 18 sports. Almost every discipline will feature young athletes prepared to compete alongside their senior counterparts.
The Indonesian contingent is scheduled to depart for Thailand on chartered flights from Adi Soemarmo International Airport in Boyolali, Central Java. The departure will be divided into two groups, leaving on Thursday at 4 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Jakarta time. ***
