RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The government has announced that the restoration of national road and bridge infrastructure in three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra is 100 percent complete. These provinces are Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"As of today, national road and bridge infrastructure restoration stands at 100 percent," said Spokesperson for the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force (Satgas PRR), Amran, during a press conference on the Sumatra natural disaster at the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Jakarta on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The government is focusing on restoring regional roads and bridges to ensure community connectivity. Regional road restoration is 94.20% complete in Aceh, 98.53% in North Sumatra, and 83.23% in West Sumatra. The restoration of regional bridges has reached 58.93 percent in Aceh, 93.98 percent in North Sumatra, and 59.50 percent in West Sumatra.

According to Amran, efforts to accelerate bridge restoration are ongoing, including support from the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) in constructing of Bailey bridges.

"Work on these regional bridges is ongoing," said Amran, who also serves as the Director of Regions, Urban Areas, and State Borders at the Ministry of Home Affairs' Directorate General of Regional Administration Development.

The government continues to accelerate the restoration of housing for communities affected by the disaster. The target is to build 57,027 permanent housing units; 2,085 were completed by October 5, 2026. Temporary housing is also being constructed.

Out of a target of 20,803 units, 20,770 units—approximately 99.8 percent—have been finished. Amran explained that the construction of permanent housing involves several stages, ranging from land preparation to physical construction. The construction process is closely monitored to ensure it proceeds in stages and provides housing certainty for the affected communities.

"We're making progress and hope to finish on schedule," he said.

Progress is also being made in the restoration of basic services. The government said that health and educational facilities in the affected areas are now fully operational.

Of the 1,593 places of worship affected, 1,558 have resumed operations. Meanwhile, the restoration of 490 religious educational institutions is underway through rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Other basic services, such as electricity, gas stations, and internet access in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, are also fully operational.

Normalizing rivers and estuaries is also part of efforts to prevent further disasters. The Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) will continue overseeing regional infrastructure and housing construction, as well as the normalization of rivers and estuaries.

This acceleration aims to ensure the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction process is completed on schedule, while also ensuring that affected communities regain optimal connectivity, housing, and access to basic services. (Misni Parjiati-EN)
