New Police Chief Suyudi Ario Seto Brings Extensive Policing Experience

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Police Com. Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto has been approved as chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), replacing Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Before earning the trust to take on the position, Suyudi held a range of strategic posts within the National Police.
Suyudi was born in Jakarta on July 14, 1973, and graduated from the Police Academy (Akpol) in 1994. He later attended the College of Police Science (PTIK) in 2003 and the National Police Senior Leadership School (Sespimti) in 2018.
Suyudi began his police career as a junior officer at the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) headquarters in 1995. A year later, he was appointed commander of Platoon I and later held several assignments within Brimob.
In 1998, he served as an intelligence and security officer at the West Java Police Mobile Brigade Unit. He later became commander of Company I, Battalion A, before moving to an assignment with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
His career then expanded into territorial policing when he was appointed Pasar Minggu Police chief in 2005. He later served as Majalengka Police chief in 2014 and Bogor Police chief in 2015.
In 2017, Suyudi was appointed Central Jakarta Metro Police chief before serving as a middle-ranking policy analyst for general crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim). Two years later, he was named director of general criminal investigation at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
In 2020, Suyudi was promoted to deputy director for economic and special crimes at Bareskrim. In 2023, he became deputy chief of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police before being appointed Banten Police chief in 2024.
After serving as Banten Police chief, Suyudi was assigned as a high-ranking officer at Bareskrim. He was reassigned before being entrusted to lead the National Narcotics Agency (BNN).
President Prabowo Subianto appointed Suyudi as BNN chief on Aug. 25, 2025, through Presidential Decree No. 118/TPA/2025.
As BNN chief, Suyudi was promoted to police commissioner general in September 2025. According to BNN, the promotion followed his official inauguration as the agency's chief.
Drawing on his experience across various units and strategic positions, Suyudi later underwent a fit-and-proper test at House of Representatives Commission III.
Commission III subsequently approved his nomination by acclamation before his appointment as National Police chief was endorsed at a plenary session on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026. (Misni Parjiati)
